In our continuing efforts to collaborate on the prevention and reduction of alcohol, marijuana, opioid, and other substance misuse in our communities, 360 Degree Development Institute (360 DDI) currently operates a Drug Free Community (DFC) grant in Somerset County, Maryland.
Recognizing that local problems need local solutions, DFC- supported coalitions engage multiple sectors of the community and employ a variety of environmental strategies to address local substance use problems. DFC’s have been proven to significantly reduce substance use amongst youth. The good news is that in 2019, Maryland’s opioid fatality rate began to stabilize. There is more work ahead, but WE ARE making a difference. Drug overdoses are still a serious public health challenge in Maryland. 360 DDI intends to broaden its reach by establishing DFC’s in Prince George’s County and Puerto Rico in the near future.
